The POSEIDON project officially launched with its kick-off meeting held on 21–22 October in Murcia, Spain, hosted by the project coordinator, the Universidad de Murcia.

POSEIDON is a three-year, EU-funded Horizon Europe initiative that aims to prepare Europe’s digital identity systems and trust services for the challenges posed by quantum computing. As quantum technologies advance, existing cryptographic methods risk becoming inadequate, making the transition to post-quantum cryptography essential for long-term digital security.

The kick-off meeting brought together consortium partners to align on the project’s objectives, scope, and initial work plan. During its lifetime, POSEIDON will develop tools and frameworks to support the transition from classical to post-quantum cryptography, enable hybrid security solutions to ensure a smooth and secure migration, and contribute to strengthening Europe’s technological sovereignty in digital trust and cybersecurity.

The meeting marked an important first step in the project’s mission to build a secure and resilient digital Europe in the post-quantum era.
