POSEIDON launches its podcast—a new space for conversations about post-quantum cryptography and Europe’s transition towards quantum-safe security. Our goal is simple: to raise awareness, explain complex topics in accessible language and show why preparing for the quantum era matters already today.
The podcast is designed for different audiences—from people taking their first steps into post-quantum cryptography to professionals already working with cybersecurity, digital identity or related technologies. One of the aims of the series is to translate complex technical and organisational issues into clearer, more accessible language. We therefore start with the fundamentals, while future episodes will gradually explore more specific and advanced aspects of the transition.
In the first episode, Professor Antonio Skarmeta from the University of Murcia, coordinator of POSEIDON, introduces the fundamentals of post-quantum cryptography. The conversation covers what PQC is, why the quantum threat matters today, which types of information may be particularly exposed, and why organisations should start preparing for the transition.
A key message of the conversation is that preparing for quantum-related risks requires looking ahead. Powerful quantum computers capable of challenging today’s cryptographic methods are not yet available, but waiting until they are would leave organisations little time to adapt. The transition itself will require changes to systems, tools and processes—and some of the information protected today will still need to remain secure many years from now.
This is particularly important for long-lived information and digitally signed records. The episode uses practical examples such as certificates, credentials and official documents to show why security decisions made today can still matter decades into the future.
We invite you to listen to the first episode. The podcast is available on:
More episodes are coming soon, with further conversations on the technological, organisational and regulatory aspects of the transition to post-quantum cryptography.
